Salvadori 2024 Student
Design Charrette
Each June, the Salvadori Student Design Charrette brings together students from schools all over the city to participate in an all-day design challenge. Students are given a design challenge related to the built environment, and are asked to create a solution according to a particular set of parameters and using only the materials provided. Participants work collaboratively in teams made up of students from different schools, with the assistance of professional architects and engineers from New York’s leading firms.
Design Challenge:
Story: With the increased need for supportive, affordable housing, the Mayor has decided to convert unused office space to residential housing that is both affordable and includes wrap around services to help prevent a return to homelessness.
Leading as architects, students worked collaboratively to redesign a 400 square foot unused office space into an apartment for a family of four (4).
