Business Honoree

Chris Larsen | CEO of Halmar International LLC

Chris Larsen is the CEO of Halmar International, LLC (Halmar) and its subsidiary companies. Mr. Larsen has nearly 40 years of experience in the construction industry managing, estimating, and engineering the construction of billions of dollars’ worth of major infrastructure projects including roads, bridges, viaducts, subways, railroads, dams, tunnels and airports. He serves on the Board of Trustees of Citizens Budget Commission, Board of Directors of New York Building Congress, Executive Leadership Committee of March of Dimes and is a long-time supporter of Wounded Warriors and Habitat of Humanity.

Throughout his career, Mr. Larsen has been an important leader in Halmar’s development and successful growth. First, as partner at Halmar Builders of New York in 1996, where the company was ranked the 12th largest highway contractor and 7th largest bridge builder in the nation just a year later. Then he guided the firm through its merger with Granite Construction Company in 2001, where he became the Northeast Regional Manager and helped build the new organization into the largest operating unit with several successful contracts. Ultimately, he established Halmar International along with COO Paul Atkins in 2005, guiding Halmar to continue building quality infrastructure that is safe, reliable and sustainable.

In 2017, Mr. Larsen and Mr. Atkins led the company’s association with ASTM S.p.A (ASTM). ASTM is a global provider of all aspects of design, construction, finance, operation and maintenance, and technological innovation for transportation P3 projects around the world. At last report, ASTM had internal financial resources in excess of $3.6B equivalent.

Construction arm Halmar, together with P3 concessionaire and equity arm ASTM North America Inc. lead ASTM in the U.S. Halmar is a national, safety-first, result-driven heavy civil construction firm guided by a commitment to quality work at every level of project delivery. For six decades, Halmar prides itself on having delivered billions in infrastructure projects with ZERO claims, defaults, liquidated damages, or terminations. The firm’s innovative solutions (some used for the 1st time in the U.S.) to design and construction challenges, coupled with an award-winning partnering approach, achieves accelerated schedules, lower costs, and trusted client relationships. In-house engineers, robust project controls, best-in-class risk management and experienced staff have delivered complex transit, rail, bridge, highway, tunnel, and aviation projects for transportation agencies across the nation.

Business Honoree

Daniel Zausner | Chief Operating Officer of USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center

Daniel Zausner joined the USTA in August 2001 after accumulating 17 years of experience in the sports and entertainment industry.

In his role as Chief Operating Officer, Zausner is responsible for managing and directing all aspects of the NTC, overseeing the year-round programming held at the facility, and for instituting and implementing a strategic vision for the long-term sustainability and growth of one of the largest public tennis facilities in the world and the home of the US Open Tennis Championships.

Additionally, Zausner manages all operations for the world’s highest-attended annual sporting event, the US Open, including food and beverage, merchandise, suites and hospitality, security, guest services, sponsor activation and construction trades. He also seeks out opportunities to expand the use of the venue for additional sports- and entertainment-related events. The USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center is open to the public 362 days a year, closing only on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day.

During his tenure, Zausner increased US Open sales revenues across multiple disciplines. Over a ten-year period, he oversaw the growth in ticket sales from $45 million to $140 million, boosting attendance 40 percent; increasing food and beverage sales from $8 million to more than $60 million; and increasing merchandise sales from $6 million to $18 million.

Zausner directed the design, construction and New York City approval process for the NTC’s $650 million visionary transformation that included upgrades to all 42.5 acres of the site over a five year period, including a retractable roof over Ashe Stadium along with new Armstrong and Grandstand Stadiums. He also designed and developed the $150 million master plan for the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center site (2003-08), including the construction of the Indoor Training Center and the renovation of the restaurants, public plaza, hospitality and event facilities, as well as the player, media and staff facilities. Currently, he just began the 3 year, $750M transformation of the grounds of the US Open.

Prior to joining the USTA, Zausner led the Venue Management Division of Ogden Entertainment, a worldwide leader of venue management, food and beverage and related support services to arenas, stadiums, convention and exhibition centers, amphitheaters, and other public assembly facilities. Directing the $350 million division, Zausner oversaw the management of more than 60 sporting arenas and stadiums worldwide, including the Arrowhead Pond in Anaheim, California, Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the Great Western Forum in Los Angeles, California, Corel Centre in Ottawa, Canada, MEN Arena in Manchester, UK, Olympic Stadium in Sydney, Australia, and the World Trade Center Observation Deck in New York City.

Previously, Zausner spent more than 11 years at Metropolitan Entertainment / John Scher Presents; one of the nation’s largest concert promoters, where he supervised all aspects of the company’s live event business, venue operations, concert promotions, special event bookings and ticket sales. He planned and directed many of the major logistical aspects of Woodstock ‘94.

Zausner sits on the board of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, NYC, is the Chairperson of the Flushing Meadows Corona Park Alliance and has been a long-serving trustee of the Queens Chamber of Commerce.

Zausner is a graduate of Binghamton University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Economics with a minor in Business Administration. He and his wife, Susan, have two sons, Samuel and Eli and reside in Tenafly, NJ.

Design Honoree

Cawsie Jijina | Principal at Severud Associates Consulting Engineers PC

Cawsie Jijina is a professional engineer with more than 45 years of experience.  He is adept in the design of many structural systems and is formally recognized by the Federal Judiciary System and by the judicial systems of the states of New York, Pennsylvania, and Nevada as an expert in the field of structural engineering. 

Among his many innovative projects are the Sphere in Las Vegas, Nevada, TSX Broadway/Palace Theater, JFK Air Terminal 6, the “Transformation” of Madison Square Garden and the mixed-use development at 20 Times Square, in New York City, as well as the renovation of the LA Forum in Inglewood, California.  He is currently the Lead Design Structural Engineer for The LVXP Casino-Hotel-Performing Arts-Sports Complex in Las Vegas, Nevada.

In 2017, Mr. Jijina was named a Leader of Industry by the Concrete Industry Board of New York City and Engineer of the Year in 2024 by the American Council of Engineering Companies. 

He just returned from Geneva, Switzerland where his TSX Tower was the only winning non-infrastructure entry in a worldwide competition.

Mr. Jijina serves as a member of the American Concrete Institute’s (ACI) Tolerances Committee, Hot Weather Concreting Committee, and Cold Weather Concreting Committee. He is a member of ACECNY Legislative committee and a past vice chair of ACECNY Board of Directors. Cawsie is the author of several technical articles in various technical journals and professional publications.

Cawsie is licensed as a professional engineer in New York, eleven other states, and the District of Columbia.  .
