in school

We immediately noted a tremendous difference in attitude towards mathematics. We began to see wonderful hands-on projects that involved the very skills in which our students were weakest. Perhaps the best symbol of success was brought to our attention by the 9th grade math teacher who asked why her new 9th grade students were so superior to the students who came to her in previous years.” -Monte Joffee, former Principal, The Renaissance Charter School, Queens

Annual Student Design Charrette

Each June, the Center sponsors a design challenge for 100 students from Salvadori schools. Participants work in small teams mentored by architects and engineers from New York’s leading firms. Young people brainstorm ideas, design and build their models, and present their work to their peers. We conceive a new challenge every year, from creating futuristic societies to designing an eco-village of tree houses.

Salvadori’s experienced teaching staff of architects, educators and engineers share their passion for the urban landscape in ways that inspire both young learners and their teachers. Our “hands on, minds on” school programs deepen content learning, span disciplines and meet rigorous curriculum standards. They increase students’ academic performance and critical thinking skills, while providing teachers with effective strategies to engage all learners.
